My Story

My desire to get into the health and fitness industry stemmed from a dislike of it.

I began calorie counting at 12 and spent my teenage and early adult years obsessed with food and my body.

I was well and truly sucked in by diet culture and had huge difficulty establishing healthy habits, blinded by my desire to be thinner.

I developed disordered eating habits including cycles of bingeing and restricting and was constantly consumed by thoughts of food and exercise. My digestion was terrible, experiencing extreme bloating and discomfort, and my bodyweight fluctuated dramatically. Both my physical and mental health were incredibly poor.

Eventually I realised that I was getting nowhere. My pursuit of thinness was futile because no matter what I weighed, I was never happy. Something had to change.

Gradually I began to shift my focus. I started to listen to and respect my body and did A LOT of thinking about what I wanted from my life.

One thing was for sure - I wanted to be able to live life fully without my body (or obsession with changing it) holding me back.

I learnt that when the pressure to lose weight was removed, I actually really enjoyed exercising and nourishing myself. It was a lot easier to do these things when they came from a place of self-care and respect, rather than shame and disgust.

I became so enamored with honouring my body and optimising my health that I completed a Masters degree in nutrition in 2020 and qualified as a personal trainer at the same time.

As I immersed myself in the health and fitness industry I quickly realised that I didn't like what I saw. Overall there was massive overvaluation of weight and shape and a huge emphasis on weight loss, and heavy promotion of unrealistic standards.

There was 'thinspo' and 'fitspo' everywhere, directly encouraging people to compare their bodies to often editted images of people with an unhealthily low body fat percentage.

Before/after pictures seemed to be the only way to sell a coaching service but they always made me uncomfortable; they perpetuate the idea that one body type is better than another.

The whole industry seemed to be built on telling people that they're just not good enough!

I resolved to offer an alternative.

If you're stuck in a cycle of yo-yo dieting;

If you constantly compare yourself to others and feel shame or disgust towards your body;

If you're struggling with emotional eating, overeating or binge eating;

Another diet is the LAST thing you need.

Instead, it's time to focus on your health, and you relationship with food and your body. It may take a little more time and work than that '6 week body transformation', but you'll never have to consider one of these 'quick fixes' again.
